Join us as the students of Prof. Groeling’s Local News Lab present the results of their study of LA Local News, which was supported by UCLA’s Initiative to Study Hate. Using the UCLA Communication Archive, students on the project conducted an extensive content analysis of LA local TV news across two weeks in 1989 and 2019, categorizing how the presentation of violent crimes varied depending on the victim, suspect, crime, and especially racial or ethnic factors.
